Windmill and Cheese Tour
We drive from the apartment out into the Dutch countryside and marvel at the incredible windmills of Zaanse Schaans before heading to the beautiful town of Monickendam. The town is just 20 minutes drive north of Amsterdam and is a wonderful port town filled with old sea vessels of various sizes and a fantastic historic past as an inland fishing and trading community which we learn about on a walking tour of the small town.
Lunch and refreshments before heading to the wonderful and famous town of Edam. We have a short walking tour before refreshments before a short drive to the world famous port town of Volendam. Here we have marvelous views across Ijselmeer to see the distance skyscrapers of Almere and Lelystad.
There we find wonderful shopping streets and very small allleyways winding between beautiful old cottages that once served all the fishing fleets and subsidiary businesses.
There is the only example of an ancient Dutch East Indies Company ship in the port that is now a museum.
We then have a slow drive back to Amsterdam through low level countryside.
